How HistoricTourist Works with Partners and Sponsors
HistoricTourist maintains strict separation between editorial content and commercial relationships. This page defines the commercial relationships and editorial designations on the platform and how each is identified.
How Relationships Are Identified
Every paid relationship on HistoricTourist carries a starred gold badge naming the relationship wherever it appears: Destination ★ Partner, Marketplace ★ Partner, Brand ★ Partner, and Heritage ★ Sponsor. The star is the platform’s own emblem — it also marks Curator’s ★ Selection, the platform’s honorary editorial designation, and Field ★ Verified, the platform’s mark of first-hand field documentation. Neither is commercial, and neither is sold. A starred badge marks a paid relationship only when it names one — Partner or Sponsor. All other editorial standing — inclusion in a platform register, Atlas Profile presentation — is likewise determined by evaluation and never for sale.
Heritage Partnerships
Heritage Partnership is a paid relationship with an entity that qualifies editorially. Partners are badged by type: Marketplace ★ Partner for preservation-trade firms — manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and services whose work sustains historic properties; Destination ★ Partner for historic destinations (program in development); Brand ★ Partner for heritage brands (planned). Participation begins with a qualified inquiry, proceeds through evaluation and register listing, and is extended by invitation. Editorial qualification cannot be purchased.
Marketplace Partners appear in the Heritage Marketplace in full partner presentation, clearly identified as paid partnerships. Marketplace Partners, presented in their full partner format, maintain a paid partnership with the platform; all other entries carry the Register’s standard form. Partnership determines how a firm is presented — never whether it qualifies.
Heritage Sponsorships
Heritage Sponsorships are for brands and services that serve the heritage traveler — transportation, premium lodging, dining, tour operators, travel gear, select financial services. Heritage Sponsorship reflects commercial relevance to the heritage traveler’s journey; it carries no editorial claim about the sponsor itself. Sponsors appear in designated placements adjacent to editorial content, matched to the geography and destination type the visitor is viewing. Sponsor placements appear only in designated placement areas, clearly identified, and are never presented as editorial content.
Editorial Standing
Inclusion in a platform register — the Heritage Destination Register, the Heritage Marketplace Register — is editorial, determined at the platform’s judgment alone, and never sold. Register entries with no paid relationship carry no class badge — the Register’s standard form. Inclusion itself is the recognition. Atlas Profile presentation in the destination atlas is likewise editorial and is identified by the Atlas Profile badge. Neither requires any commercial relationship with the platform.
For Destination Institutions
A dedicated participation program for destination institutions is in development. Destination profiles — historical narrative, architectural assessment, Preservation Lens evaluation, and field-verified intelligence — remain independent and are not for sale.
What Paid Participants Cannot Do
Paid participants do not influence editorial content, profile assessments, or verification language. They hold no approval or control over editorial content prior to publication. They cannot purchase editorial inclusion or editorial designations. Payment never affects Preservation Lens assessment or field-verified observations. Paid content is never presented as editorial.
Hosted Visits and Gifted Access
When access to a destination — or related consideration such as transportation, lodging, or dining — is provided at no cost or at reduced cost in connection with field verification, this is disclosed in the profile and does not alter the editorial assessment. HistoricTourist declines hosted access when independence may be compromised.
